Although I believe in preventing cat friction from getting this bad, this is a pretty funny video.
I know I’m a cat lady, but tee-hee, this is funny.

Cat manipulation? I say NAY!

October 1st, 2009

MyShotz-fun-QueenKittyAs some of you may have noticed (and I do hope I have an audience, even if it’s only one reader), I haven’t written in ages, eons, a billion years, (insert dramatic time-frame), etc. etc. etc. Excuses are excuses, but different things led to my prolonged hiatus. I could start explaining, but I don’t want to bore you to tears.

During those chaotic months, more than one friend came forward talking about an article they read in whocares.com explaining how cats have their owners wrapped around their paws (har har!). It’s pretty obvious I adore Nino and Stella to pieces, but were they hinting at something?

The supposed article has its truths. I wake up every morning to let Stella cuddle with me, my boyfriend feeds Nino when the little monster starts his loud meowing, and more than once I’ve given in and allowed Nino to drink from the water faucet. But guess what: human beings are weak when it comes to pleasing their pets, regardless of whether they’re canine or feline. I’ve heard countless people talk about letting their dogs sleep in their recently washed bed sheets and give-in to dopey give-me-a-treat faces (and quickly forget about the pair of destroyed shoes). Cute, fluffy animals make us melt. This article doesn’t reveal anything new to a cat-lover like me. They’re cats! Of course they want to rule the household! That was made clear the moment I adopted Nino and he crawled into my bed looking for a comfortable, warm spot. When I shut the door on him  (he kept trying to suckle my hair!), he banged the door so hard he go bumps on his head! Anyone who thinks pets will just be “pets” are in for a great surprise. They have my deepest sympathy. REALLY.

So, for those of you want to slap me in the face with an article about cats’ manipulative nature: I ALREADY KNEW!

And guess what: I DON’T CARE :) I enjoy having a pet that does more than sit around and stare blankly at the wall. Now, if you don’t mind, I have to go clean Nino’s crusty nose. C ya!

Here’s the article, in case you want to know what the heck I’m talking about:

Putty in their paws: Why we do what cats want

A pair of studies shows cats cleverly manipulate us to get what they need

Tamara Fox goes to extremes for her cats that she wouldn’t dream of for even her best friend.

“I clean their butts when necessary,” she says of 10-year-old Emma, a lilac-point Siamese mix, and 15-year-old Brianne, a chocolate seal-point Himalayan. “I wouldn’t do that for anyone else.”

P.S. Cats can only communicate through meowing, purring, or being “annoying” (or cute). If they had working thumbs and a voice-box, things would be different. Then again, it would also be creepy. Very creepy.

Suspect Arrested for Cat Killings

June 14th, 2009

Could this be the cat killer? An 18-year-old? We’ll just have to wait and see. According to JustNews.com:

Tyler Weinman, 18, lives in the area [South Florida] and is now in police custody, police said. He is charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, four counts of burglary and 19 counts of improper disposing of an animal body.

If a young man is capable of committing such terrible acts, could he be capable of going beyond family pets? I wish I knew the psychology behind this: what drove him to do such a thing? Was it cheer stupidity, vengeance, or an insatiable craving? I’m probably reading too much into this, but killing and mutilating over 20 cats is a big warning sign. If he gets time for every cat he killed, he’ll probably be in a jail for a long, loooong time. But something tells me that’s not going to happen- and that’s scary.

Regardless, the search is still on. Read the previous post if you have any information that could help with the case. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for new updates.

Cat Killer on the Loose

June 13th, 2009

A cat killer is traumatizing feline owners living in Miamia, Fla. He/she has murdered and mutilated over 20 cats, including Tommy, pictured on the left. There are many perverted, disgusting people who take pleasure in abusing and killing innocent animals, but this case hit a nerve when the victims became household, family pets.

According to a CNN article, part of Tommy’s skin and legs were missing and he was partially skinned.

As a cat owner, I’m hoping the person involved in these hideous crimes gets caught soon and receives proper punishment for his/her twisted actions. You can get up to 5 years in prison for killing a cat; animal cruelty is a FELONY in the US.

The following is an article taken from www.JustNews.com with more details on the cat killings:

Neighbors Unite Against Cat Killings

PALMETTO BAY, Fla. — Residents of Palmetto Bay plan to hold a community meeting to discuss what to do about a string of cat killings in their neighborhood.

Miami-Dade police said that since April, 33 cases involving dead cats have been reported. Eighteen of the cases, which involved a total of 19 dead cats, have been confirmed as animal cruelty, police said. Those cases happened in Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay and Kendall…

Cats and Fitness

June 9th, 2009

My cats are usually lazy, but for some reason every time I do yoga they won’t leave me alone. Maybe I should include them in my exercise routine. I wonder if Stella wouldn’t mind being my medicine ball.

Furry pals can be partners in fitness

This whole cat workout thing is pretty intriguing- and weird. Check out Cat Workout’s website. You’ll either laugh out loud or start working on your kitty’s flabby biceps. Either way, it’s amusing.

Michael Cera and Cats

April 28th, 2009

I don’t know how many of you are into Michael Cera (the gawky teenager who stars in Arrested Development, Superbad, and Juno), but this video is hilarious. I was checking out Twitter (like I do every morning), and bumped into an I Can Has Cheezburger? post. Apparently, this photoshopped picture made blogger Scott Porad (CTO of the company behind I Can Has Cheezburger? and Failblog.org) go into serious thinking mode. In the end, Michael Cera came to mind and this Adult Swim awkward video popped up. So, if you’re wondering what Michael Cera has to do with cats, read Porad’s blog and watch the video. If you’re not into awkwardness, then… [insert witty comment here]
